Candace Barnes joined the Journey of Hope board in January 2022. Candace is the Senior Vice President of Human Resources at United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. She has worked in several roles at United way over a 27-year span, within both the Finance and HR departments. Throughout Candace’s career, she has gained experience in all areas of human resources and finance including auditing, compliance, accounting, ethics, employee relations, compensation, benefits administration, recruitment, payroll, employee engagement, process improvement, training and development, coaching and team building.

Candace holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Paul Quinn College and an MBA, with a concentration in Human Resources, from Louisiana State University in Shreveport. She is an active member of the Society of Human Resources Management and has earned certificates in Diversity and Inclusion and Conflict Mediation.

Candace is married to Jay Barnes and is the mother of a daughter, Kristen, son, Brandon and one stepson, Jailon. She enjoys reading and making jewelry. Born and raised in Amarillo, Texas, she moved to Dallas in 1992 to experience life in a bigger city. Candace’s passion is helping those in need and most of her life’s work has been within the nonprofit sector.
